Even though March has been mild so far, a cold snap is coming back to the country next week. Some areas may even see snow showers before next Thursday.
The forecaster has put out a new map for Wednesday, March 25, showing that snow will fall in a number of places, mostly in northern Scotland. However, the forecaster has also said that wintry showers could affect the north, and parts of Northern Ireland could also see snow, according to the latest predictions.
The Met Office said that “much more unstable” weather will start on Wednesday. This will include snow on high ground, coastal winds, and temperatures that are lower than normal.
Maps of snow
The Express says that the Met Office’s snow maps show that northern Scotland, central Scotland, and Northern Ireland are likely to get snow.
The Met Office’s most recent forecast said, “A more mobile Atlantic pattern will develop early next week, bringing rain to northern and western areas on Monday and Tuesday. Over the Scottish mountains, the rain will sometimes turn to snow.” In the north, winds are expected to get stronger, and there will be coastal gales at times. The UK will be in a cooler and more unstable northtonorth-westerly flow by Wednesday. This will bring frequent showers, some of which will be heavy and wintry on higher ground. Later in the day, snow might fall at lower levels in the north. The temperatures will be close to or a little below normal.
Three areas are likely to get snow.
- Scotland’s North
- The middle of Scotland
- The whole of Northern Ireland
Steve Willington, the Chief Forecaster at the Met Office, said, “While the beginning of the month brings warm sunshine to many, it’s not unusual for March to have colder spells and even some wintry showers.” Next week, a cooler northwesterly flow will bring a drop in temperature and more unstable weather, with some hill snow in the north and strong winds at times. “This pattern is completely normal for this time of year.”
