Roses Boat Race

Roses is the annual intervarsity competition between Lancaster University and the University of York, and is the biggest varsity event in Europe, with over 100 fixtures. LUBC has been a part of the Roses legacy since its inception in 1965, with the original Roses competition having one event – the Roses Boat Race. Since then the varsity event has evolved rapidly into what it is today.

Head of the Lune / Lancaster Regatta

The Head of the Lune and Lancaster Regatta are two separate events that give LUBC an opportunity to compete on home ground, the lovely River Lune.

LUBC has seen much success in both of these events, as they especially give novices a taster of competitive rowing!

Roses

The War of the Roses continues today in great sporting tradition with the annual intervarsity competition between the students of Lancaster and York.

With 50 different sports and more than 100 different fixtures over one weekend dictating the victor, the Boat Race kicks it off annually with a Regatta style race on our home river the Lune or the Ouse in York.

The Red Roses have beat the White 26 times in the last 50 years and it is one of the major highlights for Lancaster sport during the academic year. With the rivalries intensifying every year, an incredible amount of training goes into this race, with our very best athletes competing to ensure Roses remain Red.
