| Feather | When the spoon of the blade is parallel to the water during the recovery |
| Finish | The end of the stroke where the blade handles are close to the chest and the blades are extracted from the water |
| Firm | Term used to describe applying pressure in the drive of the stroke |
| Frontstops | The position at the catch |
| Gate | The metal bar/plastic that hold the oar in place allowing it to swivel |
| Head race | A processional time trial race with a rolling start |
| Hold it up | Verbal instruction to bring the boat to a stop but holding the blades square against the water |
| Pin | The metal the gate swivels around |
| Rate | Number of strokes per minute |
| Recovery | The part of the stroke where the blade is out of the water |
| Regatta | A competition with side-by-side racing, points are awarded. Races are from a standing start |
| Rigger | The metal on the side of the boat with the gate on the end where the blade is held |
| Rigger jigger | Double ended spanner with a 10mm end and a 13mm end |
| Squaring | When the spoon of the blade is perpendicular to the water, this action is in preparation for the catch during the recovery |
